Nestled in the valleys of Liping County, Qiandongnan, Guizhou, China, Zhaoxing Dong Villa Dongjiang Lake is located in Zixing City, Chenzhou, Hunan Province, China. It is a national 5A-level scenic spot and a large man-made lake in south-central China, formed by water impoundment of the Dongjiang Hydropower Station. Known as the "Dongting Lake of Southern Hunan", it boasts a vast surface and excellent water quality that meets China’s Class I drinking water standard. Green mountains embrace the blue water, with dozens of islets scattered across the lake. A poet praised it: “A lake between heaven and earth, holding thousands of scenes within.”

The Misty Xiaodongjiang is Dongjiang Lake’s most famous attraction. From April to October each year, ethereal white fog rises over the river at dawn and dusk due to the temperature difference between lake water and air. A fishing boat drifts slowly amid the mist as the fisherman casts his net. Mountains, water, thin fog and fishing boats merge into a flowing Chinese ink wash painting, making it a popular destination for photographers.

Longjing Gorge sits next to the Dongjiang Dam, stretching 2.5 kilometers. Lush woods fill the gorge, where the fresh air is rich in negative oxygen ions. Eighteen waterfalls and more than twenty clear pools dot the valley. Streams rush down the rocks with gentle murmurs. Strolling along the mountain plank path brings cool comfort. It is an ideal place to get close to nature, escape summer heat and breathe fresh air.

You can take a boat to reach Duoshuai Island in the middle of the lake, home to the Duoshuai Karst Cave. Hundreds of millions of years of geological evolution have created diverse stalactites inside. Lit up, they look fantastic and magnificent. Stalagmites and stone pillars of varied shapes are marvels of nature. Visiting the island, cruising the lake and exploring the cave lets you enjoy lake views as well as underground wonders.

Dongjiang Lake offers more than scenic mountains and waters; it also serves authentic lake delicacies. Dongjiang fish and Dongjiang cured pork are local specialties. Visitors may cruise by boat, cycle around the lake, or quietly wait for morning mist. Combining lake scenery, gorges and karst caves, this tranquil and healing hidden landscape is a must-see gem in Hunan.
